Potatoes & Leeks for Obama!

In light of today’s primary and because we love potatoes and the satisfaction from a days’ good work, we chose to have Garlic & Leek Chowder in Sourdough bowls. Wow!

Basic Recipe, Chowder: Yields 12cups

  • Garlic to taste
  • 1 hefty yellow onion
  • 1 good sized leek
  • 1 Italian green pepper (the long skinny kind)
  • 6 small-medium potatoes
  • 1tbs butter
  • 1tbs olive oil
  • 3-5c water
  • 1/4c half & half
  • 1/4c milk
  • Seasonings: I used paprika, salt, pepper & Cavender’s Greek Seasoning

Stir fry all vegetables according to firmness in heated olive oil. Add water to cover. Add potatoes. Boil until potatoes are soft then blend 3/4 of the stew and return to pot. Add cream, butter, milk & spices.

Sourdough: if you don’t have a way to make this yourself, you can purchase it, but really it’s extra nice if you have it from scratch. I made these bowls this afternoon.

We like to have a big salad with dinner. This one has my favorite flavor combination of sweet, crisp apples and red onion. Also it has some chopped tomato and paper-thin slices of aged artisan cheese and Justin’s special home made vinaigrette.

Tada!! We hope Obama takes it home tonight! And even if he doesn’t tonight, he will at the next one! Here’s to a new America, 2009!
