Back Seat Stories
Back Seat Stories is a series of monoprints where I interpret childhood memories from the back seat of a car. Our family moved a lot; therefore, I didn’t have the opportunity to develop a relationship with my environment, as it was always changing.
The series developed out of passages: a year-long study. Through that project, I recalled my experience of the American West: long stretches of countryside by freeway and car with nothing much to do but count stationary things like telephone poles or California Oak trees and dream of homes with people who never moved. Using this imagery, I look to evoke the viewpoint of longing to stay, yet still just passing through.
